Olives are small fruits (Olea europaea) which grow on olive trees. They are synonymous with mangoes, cherries, peaches, almonds, and pistachios and belong to a fruit group called drupes, or stone fruits. Olives contain very high levels of vitamin E and other strong antioxidants. In salads , sandwiches, and stews, olives are popular as both a snack and an ingredient. Their texture is chewy and they have a rich, salty flavour.
